Magnetic Fly Screen FAQ

General answers about magnetic insect screens for doors. For product-specific comparisons, see our comparison page.

Yes. Most balcony-door models attach with adhesive Velcro on the inside of the frame. Push pins for wooden frames are often included for extra hold. No screws or drilled holes are required, which makes them suitable for rented flats. See our installation guide for details.

Many standard balcony doors fit a 90 × 210 cm screen, but you should always measure the inside width and height of your frame first. Many models are fixed size and cannot be shortened. Read the full measuring guide before ordering.

Fibreglass mesh generally resists claws, UV exposure, and tearing better than standard polyester. For moderate use on a shaded balcony, polyester is often enough. Pets, ground-floor traffic, or full-sun exposure favour fibreglass or reinforced fabrics. Compare both in our materials guide.

Velcro tape is designed to remove cleanly from most painted and uPVC frames when peeled slowly at a low angle. Avoid applying to dusty, damp, or flaking surfaces. Test a small hidden area first. Tenants should read our rental guide for move-in/move-out tips.

Start with how the door is used: occasional adult traffic on a standard balcony suits entry-level polyester. Daily use with pets, strong wind, or direct sun pushes you toward reinforced or fibreglass mesh and wider top Velcro (3.8 cm+). Magnet quality matters on windy terraces — continuous magnetic strips can close gaps better than scattered blocks.

Yes, if the fixed frame around the sliding panel gives you a flat inner surface for Velcro and the opening dimensions match a ready-made size. Measure the active opening when the door is closed, not the full wall width. Wide openings may need a larger listed size (e.g. 100 × 220 cm).

Fine mesh blocks mosquitoes, flies, and most flying insects when the magnetic seam closes fully. Very small gaps at the bottom or sides — often from incorrect sizing or weak magnets — let insects through. Proper measurement and a secure top mount are as important as mesh density.
